Recreation Dept. Gearing Up for Fall Programs
The department's fall brochure is out to Westwood residents this week.

It's been a busy first year for .
Since coming on board in February, Burnes has worked with the department to revamp a number of programs, and he's helped facilitate the move of the department's office at .
Adding to that, Burnes has also been key in pushing for the rebirth of a , an event the likes of which have not been held in nearly 20 years, save a centennial celebration in 2000.
Now, as the fall approaches, more programs will be gearing up for residents in town.
"We're adding a lot of fitness components, which is one of the things I said I'd really like to do, increase an opportunity for people to get out and get busy," Burnes said. "We've created some yoga classes, and we're also doing some stuff with Hale (Reservation)."

The Fall 2011 brochure offers everything from aquatics programs to the pool's schedule, and even information on upcoming children's and adult workshops.
Meanwhile, organization for the future reincarnation of Westwood Day is ongoing, and the Recreation Department is planning to hold a meeting at the on Monday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. to welcome residents to be apart of a number of committees to help get the event off the ground next year.
"It's basically an opportunity for residents to come out and get some insight and ideas, and we'll have the opportunity to sign up for some of the committees," Burnes said.
Among the committees to help organize Westwood Day will be a group to handle fundraising, one to deal with various activities and another to help volunteer efforts, among others. One committee will also organize various food and beverages.
"Obviously, in planning an event that encompasses so much, ideally you'd like to have a few committees meet and organize some thoughts," Burnes said. "We're excited about it. It'll be an opportunity for people to come and learn a little bit more. What we're looking to do is give residents a step up, and really get a good sense of what the needs are."
