second season got underway on Tuesday, as we had our first game of the Old New England Lacrosse League (O.N.E.L.L.) competition and notched an 11-7 win against the South Shore Womps in Hingham.
This is a team we squeaked by a two-goal win last year, when we played them at home in our first season. All of the indoor play from last fall and this winter were evident as Aged Wood rushed out to a three-goal lead led by new team members Greg Mahoney of Walpole, who dominated the faceoff, and then John Isaf of Medfield.

Aged Wood got out to a 5-1 lead and the Womps battled back to within two. Paul DeMaio of Westwood erupted with a five-point evening three goals and two assists.
Dave Krumsiek and Eric Arnold (both of Westwood) and our new "Rhode Island connection" Bill Greene and Jamie Worrell scored some clutch goals down the way to begin pulling away.

The AW defense played very tough, and has reloaded since the retirement of some it's players at the end of last season. The D led by Scott Lanciloti of Newton really gave the Womps offense, which was loaded with ex-Div. I talent, a hard time.
Jim McGowan, Larry Klaff and Rob Malster (all of Westwood) were solid keeping the Womps offense away from the AWLC net. The addition of Mike McInnis (Andover) has been invaluable as a defenseman and as a long stick midfield (LSM).
The combined efforts shut the Womps down to where they finally were able to first shots on net in the second quarter.
Next week the team returns to Westwood for its first home game in 2012 on Flahive Field. Coming to town next Tuesday, June 26, are the Old Dogs of Portsmouth, Rhode Island. They are a new team to the ONELL this season.
That game is set for 8 p.m. under the lights and we hope to have a big home crowd turnout.
