VIDEO: Westwood Falls 3-1 to Rival Medfield
The Wolverines sustained the loss Wednesday night in Franklin.
FRANKLIN – The boys' hockey team was knocked down by Tri-Valley League rival Medfield Wednesday, 3-1, allowing the Warriors to sweep the season series with the Wolverines.
Wednesday's loss to keeps the Warriors atop the league standings with a 7-0-1 record. Westwood lost to Medfield, 3-1 in Canton on Dec. 17.
Medfield got on the board 28 seconds into the game Wednesday after Tyler Etzkorn followed his shot on Westwood goaltender William Kenney and tipped in the rebound for the 1-0 advantage.

That lead held up through a scoreless second period that saw Westwood gain momentum from a strong penalty kill and a lackluster Medfield power play. The Warriors went 0-for-3 on the power play in the period and Westwood created two shorthanded scoring chances on the penalty kill. Medfield goaltender Conor Roddy rose to the occasion on the shorthanded bids, making a toe-save on one bid with under two minutes and getting some help by the iron as Westwood hit the post on another.
Medfield regained some momentum in the third period and extended its lead on Etzkorn's second of the game with 6:51 to play, making it 2-0 Warriors. Westwood responded with a goal from Brendan Dalton with 1:48 remaining in the period, cutting Medfield's lead to 2-1, but Ben Cox netted an empty netter with 38.4 seconds to put the game away, 3-1.

Medfield has a week off before returning to the ice Feb. 1 against Bellingham (8 p.m.) at Veterans Arena in Franklin.
