Westwood Artists lead effort for Community Quilt

Create an animal quilt square as you listen to the music of Westwood Community Band at Art & Soul event on Monday, August 6th.

Westwood Community Band and Westwood Artists are combining forces to present "Art and Soul," an evening of Music and Art Monday, August 6, 2018 at Westwood High School, 6:00 - 8:30 PM.

WestwoodWinds, under the direction of James Giurleo, will perform its annual public concert in the Westwood High School cafeteria courtyard. Presenting its usual eclectic blend of familiar pieces, the theme of this year's concert is "Where the Wild Things Are," relating to animals. "Peter and the Wolf" with narration will be also performed that will be especially enjoyed by young children.

Works of art created by Westwood Artists will be on display in the Westwood High School during intermission. Featured artists are Carol Ahearn, Kathy Zola, Karen Cagan, Lisa WB Walker, Jane Wojick and Maureen Obey.

Lisa WB Walker, spokesperson for Westwood Artists says, "Using the animal theme of WestwoodWinds musical performance, the Westwood Artists will be at the August 6th event to provide materials to create a paper community quilt. Children and adults alike will have the opportunity to make their own quilt square of their favorite animal. The finished quilt will be on display at the Westwood Artists gallery housed at the Westwood Media Center. Together Westwood Artists and WestwoodWinds bring Art & Soul to Westwood with our first collaborative event."

"In addition, meeting the musical interests of people in the Westwood area, the mission of WestwoodWinds includes collaborating with other educational and cultural organizations. To this end, we are combining our efforts with Westwood Artists to throw a spotlight on artists of all types in our community" explains Giurleo. "As our first collaboration, we are learning how to integrate our efforts into an event that can be enjoyed by everyone."
