Westwood High Grads Help Northwestern to NCAA's Women's Lacrosse Title

Former Westwood High standouts Alex Frank, Kelly Rich and Kerry Harrington were part of the women's lacrosse championship team at Northwestern University.

 

Three products are national champions after the Northwestern University women's lacrosse team won its seventh national title, beating Syracuse University, 8-4, in Stony Brook, N.Y.

Former Wolverine Alex Frank, a senior defender, was named to the all-tournament team. Westwood's Kelly Rich, a sophomore attack-midfielder and Kerri Harrington, a sophomore, was also part of the championship Wildcats.

Northwestern seven NCAA championships are only second all-time to the 10 won by Maryland between 1986 and 2010.

"To have such a great weekend and have executed our game plan and done so well all over the field, I'm just really proud of what these girls have done," said head coach and architect of the NU program Kelly Amonte Hiller, who has now been part of nine NCAA championships in her playing and coaching career at Maryland and Northwestern "As a coach, you can try to encourage and inspire, but it's the girls that do it on the field, and they were determined and they were really on a mission." Amonte Hiller is a Hingham native and a Thayer Academy graduate.

Frank started all 23 games this season and scored two goals from her defender position. Harrington appeared in 19 games with 10 starts, while Rich appeared in 21 games with one start.
