Westwood Public Schools and Chyten Educational Services Announce Collaboration to Support Student Learning

Partnership seen as an avenue for elevating the entire Westwood community.

Westwood Public Schools and Chyten Educational Services are launching an innovative partnership intended to benefit the entire Westwood community by helping the town’s public high school students improve their ACT and SAT test scores. Through this partnership, Chyten’s tutoring and test preparation programs will be available to Westwood students at significantly reduced rates beginning immediately with the 2016-2017 school year.

The tutoring and test preparation programs being provided to Westwood High School students by Chyten have been customized for the district and will be held at the high school. The partnership will offer families discounts that range from about 25 percent to over 50 percent depending on the course.

“We believe this opportunity will not only give our students a distinct academic advantage, it’s a partnership that benefits Westwood as a town,” said Westwood Superintendent John Antonucci. “Strong schools are the foundation of strong communities and these support services will enable our students to become more competitive college bound candidates and, down the road, more successfully employed adults. Additionally, higher test scores for our students will help everyone in our town, because test scores are strongly considered in virtually all school and town rankings.”

Chyten’s instruction employs a two-tier approach: First, Chyten tutors help students reach their fullest potential by strengthening test-specific skills in reading, writing, grammar, and math. Next, Chyten helps students boost point totals by imparting proprietary strategies to all sections of the SAT and ACT. Chyten’s tutors all have advanced degrees such as Master's or PhD as well as teaching experience, distinguishing factors that help drive student performance and test taking results.

“This partnership is a unique opportunity for Westwood students to build upon the skills and abilities they have honed through our excellent schools and gain the support they need to further position themselves for success in college and in their careers,” said Westwood High School Principal Sean Bevan. “Chyten brings a record of success in ensuring that students not only excel on particular tests, but that they develop test-taking skills and problem-solving tools that will serve them well for a lifetime.”

Chyten Educational Services was founded by former Westwood resident Neil Chyten, who began tutoring students in 1984 and established a tutoring company to keep up with high demand for his successful approach.
