Highlights, submitted by Head Coach Kevin Whitaker:
"Our season opening match with Needham (on Sept. 6) was a hard fought victory with Westwood winning the match three sets to one," Whitaker said. "We served aggressively in the first set and continued playing solid team defense in the second set, both sets resulting in wins for us.
Needham, however, came back and outplayed Westwood, taking the third set and continued advancing against the Wolverines in the fourth set.

"I was proud, however, when Westwood's young ladies were able to fight back from behind and win this critical fourth set with a strong run," Whitaker said. "It really was anyone's game for a while, with both sides going back and forth at the end. I'm very pleased that we made a strong finish and won the match 3-1. It was a good solid win for us. It's always an added bonus to secure a season opening win on the road."
On Wednesday, Sept. 7, Westwood fell to Medway, 3-0.
On Friday, Sept. 9, Westwood held a solid performance against Bellingham, winning 3-1.
"Senior Jing Li and Carol Han continued to lead the way in both serves and kills," Whitaker said. "Stephanie O’Connor was coming back from an upper leg injury and I’m afraid we will miss her for several weeks to come due to re-injury. Our two play callers, Chrissa Salemis and Monica Norris are beginning to take charge of our offense.
"It was an exciting first week for Westwood Volleyball and I believe our early season success demonstrates our young ladies can handle anything that gets thrown at them and that they will continue to improve as we stride now two games closer towards a tournament berth."
The girls continued with a 3-0 victory over Weston on Monday, Sept. 12.
