"I'm pleased that we matched their physical intensity," Chant said. "(It was) unfortunate that we couldn't cash in and score when we controlled play the last 25 minutes of the first half. The second half was evenly contested, with Millis scoring on a 26-yard direct free kick. Sheila O'Sullivan brought our intesity level up when she came on as a sub."

Boys Soccer

Highlights from home game vs. Norwood High School on Saturday, Sept. 17; Win 2-1 (provided by Coach Jonathan Grant):

"It was a back-and-forth game for the first 30 minutes or so until Jonathan Harper hit a direct kick from about 25 yards out, bending it over the wall and beating the Norwood goalie," Grant said.

"In the second half, Sean Laughlin played a ball into the box off a free kick. We had three Westwood players crashing the net and as the ball bounced around Jonathan Harper kicked in the loose ball. Norwood didn't give up and pressed, finally capitalizing twice to tie the game with minutes left. Seconds after Norwood's second goal, Harper sent a great through ball by the Norwood defense to Shane Maher, who went in on a breakaway beating the Norwood goalie for the game winner."

Highlights from away game against Ashland on Tuesday, Sept. 20; Win, 2-1 (provided by Coach Jonathan Grant):

"We are beginning to come out with more energy, and just like with Norwood, was able to score the first goal with only a few minutes left in the first half.

"Austin Deangelis was able to take advantage of a bad clear by an Ashland defender, and caught the goalie out of position," Grant said. "He was poised on the ball and placed it in the back of the net from outside the 18 yard box.

"Ashland was able to tie the game with a hard strike halfway through the second half. With about 10 minutes left, Cory Krakowsky switched the field to Olek Lis, who beat his defender down the sideline and was able to strike a shot, hitting the far post and bouncing in for the game winner. Ashland had many chances in the last 10 minutes, but were unable to get any on target."
