Xaverian Brothers High School, in Westwood, is led by Head Coach David Ludwig. The team entered the game 14-4. Ludwig said the team made some errors Friday, and lost a few points, but the 3-0 result didn't really reflect the way the boys played.
"We played our heart out," he said. "They just really played good. We gave them a good match."
Zacchilli said the Milford boys played more aggressively in the third game, with the advantage of being up two. "We were in a better position to be more aggressive."
For Milford, Kane Wittorff and Alex Wasik were the lead scorers. Wittorff, a junior, had 12 kills and 3 blocks. Wasik, a senior, had 11 kills and 6 blocks.
Other players who did well included Sean Varney, a senior, on defense; Tim MacMannis, a junior, who had 4 kills and an ace; and Dan Seaver, a senior, who had 8 kills and 3 blocks, Zacchilli said.
