DOVE Issues Statement in Wake of Murder of Weymouth Woman

The Staff and Board of DOVE (Domestic Violence Ended), Inc. expressed sadness after Melissa Hardy of Weymouth  was killed in an apparent domestic violence homicide.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Melissa Hardy of Weymouth, and invite anyone in the community to call us during this time of loss, anger, and sadness,” Sue Chandler , Executive Director said in a press statement.

This is the 7th known domestic violence homicide victim in Massachusetts since January 1, according to DOVE.

“Throughout our communities, many of us know someone – sister, neighbor, friend, cousin, fellow parishioner – who is a victim of domestic violence,” Chandler said. “If you know or suspect that someone you know is involved with an abusive partner, it is important to know that help is available – to you as well as to the victim, and to become familiar with the resources available through local domestic violence organizations.” 

Hardy was allegedly slain when she went to retrieve her things from her convicted rapist ex-boyfriend last month.

DOVE said that Studies said anyone connected to trained staff in a domestic violence program can be protected against domestic violence homicide.
