Animal Control Seeking To ID 2 Dogs Found Dead In Weymouth

One of the dogs was wrapped in a plastic bag and had no tags, collar or microchip, police said.

WEYMOUTH, MA — A Weymouth Animal Control officer has asked the public's assistance in identifying two dogs found dead in two days this week.

The first dog was found Sunday on the banks of Whitmans Pond near the gazebo on Middle Street, the Weymouth Police Department said in a social media post.

The small, white terrier-type dog "had no identifying tags, collar, or microchip — only a Seresto flea and tick collar," the post said.

"There are no known signs of trauma or suspicious circumstances," the post said. "We simply hope to locate the owner and provide them with closure."

The second dog, however, was found wrapped in a plastic bag Monday on Lakeshore Drive.

"The circumstances surrounding this dog's recovery are considered suspicious, and we are actively seeking information from the public," the post said.

This dog, a medium-sized, black and white pit bull mix, also had no collar, tags or microchip, according to the post.

The police asked the owners of the dogs or anyone who knows someone who recently lost a dog matching the descriptions of the dead animals to call Animal Control Officer Darren King at 781-660-3707, or to email him at dking@weymouth.ma.us.

"Anonymous tips are welcome and appreciated," the post said. "Any information, no matter how small, may help."
