Family Member Says Weymouth Murder Was a 'Freak Accident'

Prosecutors say Beaudry killed his father while the suspect's family believe it was an accident.

The brother-in-law of a Weymouth man accused of killing his father is calling the incident a freak accident.

Greg Gliniewicz, who is married to murder suspect Michael Beaudry’s sister, told the Boston Herald that his brother-in-law loved his father and what happened on Monday afternoon was a “nightmare.”

In an interview with the Herald, Gliniewicz  said, “What happened was an accident, a freak accident. It’s a nightmare. All we’re trying to do is grieve. We’re trying to live with this.”

Jack Atwood, the defense attorney, also says Monday’s incident was not a murder.

Atwood said he believes his client had his back to his father when he was approached during the argument over a BB gun.  When he swung around with the pipe, that is when he struck him in the head.

The lawyer will try to lessen the charge and believes his client is either not guilty or should be found with manslaughter.

“It’s just not a murder; It’s a tragedy,” Atwood said after the arraignment on Tuesday.
