More MBTA Commuter Rail Trains Will Be Restored on Monday

Forty-two MBTA Commuter Rail trains will be fully restored on Monday, March 16, including on Kingston/Plymouth and Greenbush lines that service Weymouth.

Keolis Commuter Service, which runs the MBTA Commuter Rail, announced the “major milestone” in its “plan to restore full service by March 30.”

“This marks the largest number of commuter trains restored to service since the recovery schedule was put in place after winter storms impacted the commuter rail fleet. Keolis has now returned 82% of the normal train fleet back into service, enabling the restoration of these routes a week ahead of schedule,” Keolis said in a statement.

Keolis has been fined more than $434,000 by the MBTA after nearly two-thirds of trains were late or canceled during the six weeks of heavy snowfall in the region.

Keolis will announce the next round of service restoration, which is scheduled for March 23, next week.

“We told passengers that we were committed to adding trains back into the schedule as quickly as possible and we meant it,” said Keolis Commuter Services General Manager Gerald C. Francis. “These routes were selected based on where we knew we could provide quality service on a consistent basis in order to have the greatest impact on the overall commuter rail schedule. We also took into account input from passengers about where there was the greatest need.”

The trains restored for March 16 include:

Plymouth/Kingston

• Train 038 (7:11 a.m. inbound from Kingston to South Station)

• Train 061 (8:56 a.m. outbound from South Station to Plymouth)

• Train 060 (10:48 a.m. inbound from Plymouth to South Station)

• Train 047 (5:38 p.m. outbound from South Station to Kingston)

Greenbush

• Train 073 (9:25 a.m. outbound from South Station to Greenbush)

• Train 080 (10:35 a.m. inbound from Greenbush to South Station)

• Train 075 (10:30 a.m. outbound from South Station to Greenbush)

• Train 082 (11:50 a.m. inbound from Greenbush to South Station)
