Senior Helpers Boston Expands Service to South Shore, Including Weymouth

Mark Friedman's passion for helping seniors has expanded exponentially, and now extends to 75 communities.

Comprehensive Suite of Personal and Home Care Services Now Available in More Than 75 Communities

As the owner of Senior Helpers Boston, a private duty home care agency that has served the Boston metropolitan area since 2009, Mark Friedman recently made three announcements:

1. Senior Helpers Boston has acquired Senior Helpers South Shore where it will continue to lead the South Shore in Senior Care Services from its Norwell, MA office.

2. In October, the Newton headquarters will upsize and re-locate (but remain in Newton) to enable it to provide increased resources for family, professional and caregiver education.

3. Senior Helpers Boston will open a third office to better serve Mystic Valley and southern Merrimac Valley in late fall, early winter.

These expansions enable Senior Helpers Boston to deliver its unique suite of caregiver services to more than 75 communities including 30 South Shore, MA communities that include Quincy, Hingham, Norwell, Brockton, Braintree, Duxbury, Marshfield, Pembroke, and Weymouth. While already serving Mystic and southern Merrimac Valley, the new space in Woburn will also serve as a recruitment and training center. This is in direct response to the growing need for more caregiver services in Wilmington, Woburn, Burlington, Stoneham, North Reading and the surrounding communities.

Friedman stated that while there are a significant increase in the number of companies offering home care services, actually delivering home care is not as straight forward as it seems.

As Friedman points out, “Delivering home care today has become a moving target. The needs of seniors are getting much more complex. The family dynamic is increasingly complicated, especially if the families making home care decisions live out of state or out of the country. More importantly, to be delivering exceptional care you have to make significant investments in ongoing caregiver training,

education, and certification. Today, it is not enough to say you provide home care, because families need to know the nuts and bolts of what that really means.” Friedman cites other considerations. “Recent fundamental regulatory changes in wage and hour requirements on agencies and families/individuals create critical issues with significant potential liability to families even when using an agency. Consumers need to make educated decisions when choosing great care providers, and be very aware of doing this within federal and state employment standards.”

With the lack of licensure in the state, Friedman has been an influential voice for consumer safety and protection. Friedman has been an advocate for home care licensing and standardized practices in Massachusetts, where none currently exist. He serves on the private duty advisory committee of the Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts. He will serve as Vice Chair on the Massachusetts Committee for the Home Care Association of America hoping to influence this state- wide, and industry change. A faculty member in Lasell College’s E.L.D.E.R. Partnership Program, he plays an active role in a curriculum attracting and educating the next generation of industry leaders. He is also one of two certified trainers in Massachusetts of the Virtual Dementia Tour (VDT®), a teaching tool that replicates the physical phases of dementia.

Senior Helpers has distinguished itself from other home care companies on several fronts. With Leeza Gibbons as its national spokesperson and Teepa Snow as its Educational Partner for its proprietary Senior Gems™ Dementia Care Program, it is one of the largest in-home senior care companies and a leader in the industry for caregiving in Dementia Care. Senior Gems™ is a program for caregiving that works with seniors along the three major stages of these cognitive diseases. They have also adopted a special Senior Gems™ program designed for family caregivers.

Senior Helpers recently announced its Parkinson’s care program, and serves as exclusive sponsor of Online Caregiver Resources for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Senior Helpers Boston’s caregiver training, certification and education programs have distinguished its services for seniors and will continue to do so in all the communities it serves locally.
