South Shore Hospital Profits Increase in Fiscal Year 2015, State Report Finds

The Massachusetts Center for Health Information and Analysis has released its report on the financial performance of the state's hospitals.

WEYMOUTH, MA — The Massachusetts Center for Health Information and Analysis (CHIA) released its annual Massachusetts Acute Hospital Financial Performance Report for the 2015 fiscal year on Thursday, and Weymouth's South Shore Hospital saw an increase in profits from the 2014 fiscal year to the 2015 fiscal year.

The CHIA report indicates that profits are up from $16.4 million in FY2014 to $50.0 million in FY2015. The hospital's total margin also increased from 3.3 percent in FY2014 to 8.9 in FY2015.

South Shore Hospital's profits is above what most individual hospitals are bringing in. The CHIA report indicates that South Coast Hospital had the highest profit at $87.2 million. The individual hospital with the lowest profit was Boston Children's Hospital, which actually lost $5.5 million.

There was also some growth in net assets. In the last fiscal year, the hospital had $221.2 million in assets and increased to $226.3 in the current fiscal year.
