Tax Hike Possible in Weymouth
Mayor Susan Kay is proposing a debt exclusion while the town council is supporting an override.

Like many communities south of Boston, a potential tax increase could come to Weymouth, but the form of the new revenue remains unknown.
Last week, Mayor Susan M. Kay formally proposed an $18.5 million debt exclusion to allow for the renovation of Lovell Field and playground, North Weymouth Fire Station 1, and various building repairs across town.
Town councillors instead requested an override to help boost the operations of town departments they say are underfunded according to the Boston Globe.

During the meeting, nine of the 11 councilors gave their support to an override. Kay said she is evaluating the council’s request.
The proposal from the council calls for a $6.5 million override with $3 million for schools, $1 million each for police, fire, and the department of public works, and the rest to be distributed to other departments.
