Town Council Backs Plan for New Tufts Library

WEYMOUTH, MA — Weymouth can now move forward on a grant application to construct a new library.

Last week, the Weymouth Town Council approved the schematic plans for the new Tufts Library. The town will now apply for a grant from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners to help fund constructions.

The design, created by architectural firm Johnson Roberts Associates of Somerville, has a new building at the location of the current library. The children's department and meeting rooms are on the first floor and books, reference, study rooms and the young adult's department are on the second floor.

The town hopes to build a new 53,000-square-foot library at the site of the current library. A state grant would cover 43 percent of the costs.
