Two Weymouth Officers Honored For January Arrest

At Friday's Quincy District Court Law Day, officers Harrington and Flanagan were presented the Robert P. Dana Distinguished Service Award for their roles in a January arrest.

In late January, Weymouth officers Scott Harrington and James Flanagan were able to track down an alleged rape victim and arrest him after he led them on a police chase through three towns.

The chase injured one officer and resulted in the suspect’s vehicle crashing into a pole and catching fire.

At Friday’s Quincy District Court Law Day, officers Harrington and Flanagan were presented the Robert P. Dana Distinguished Service Award for their roles in the arrest, according to the Weymouth Police Department’s Facebook Page.

After receiving the the officers spotted the suspect driving away from the scene.  During the chase, Harrington’s cruiser was forced off the road into a tree, and the suspect’s car struck a telephone pole and burst into flames. Flanagan and Harrington rushed to the suspect’s car to remove him and render aid. The suspect survived.

Flanagan and Harrington were presented the award by Weymouth Police Chief Richard Grimes and District Attorney Michael Morrissey.
