UPDATE: Weymouth Family on Vacation Left Homeless After Fire Destroys Home

Weymouth firefighters attacked the blaze from the exterior and quickly focused on the right side of the property before the flames could spread to an adjacent home.

A two alarm fire completely destroyed a Weymouth home Sunday night.

Weymouth firefighters received a report of an explosion at 9:17 p.m. and when they responded to the house at 14 Carlson Cove Road just minutes later, it was completely engulfed in flames.

“The fire covered every floor and every window,” Chief Joseph Davis said.

Weymouth firefighters attacked the blaze from the exterior and quickly focused on the right side of the property before the flames could spread to an adjacent home, Davis said.  The heavy flames caused the second floor to collapse.

Davis said the homeowners were away on vacation in Florida and no one was inside the homes when the fire started. One firefighter did receive minor injuries while no residents were hurt.

Chief Davis believes the sounds of explosions that were heard from neighbors came from aerosol cans that may have been inside the house.

Weymouth firefighters responded to the call within four minutes and it took them over three hours to extinguish the flames. Carlson Cove Road and areas of Lake Street were closed while firefighters cleared the scene.

“They did a fantastic job,” Davis said.  “They contained the fire and prevented it from spreading.”

The Weymouth Fire Department, Police Department and State Fire Marshall’s Office are still investigating the cause of the fire.
