A procession for the fallen Weymouth officer made its way through the South Shore to Hanover Thursday.
WEYMOUTH, MA – Thousands of officers converged on Hanover Thursday for a police walk-by honoring fallen Weymouth Police Sgt. Michael Chesna. Chesna's procession was escorted through the South Shore to Hanover, where his wake took place at the St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Church. A funeral mass will take place Friday at the church.
Thursday's procession traveled on Derby Street through Hingham, Rt. 53 through Norwell and Rt. 139 in Hanover, ending at the church, police said. Residents were encouraged to line the streets, and a stream of officers from several Massachusetts police departments filed through the church and down Hanover Street.
The officers left on MBTA buses bearing "Rest In Peace Sgt. Chesna S209" on their displays.
