WEYMOUTH, MA — Police officers from across the state Monday met at the Weymouth Police Station for a motorcycle ride in honor of Officer Michael Chesna who was shot and killed Sunday morning.

Police cars from Canton and Milton also drove by and honked their horns by the memorial set up near the scene of the crime near Torrey Street.

Residents also came out to memorials at both the police station and the scene of the crime to pay their respects.
"We're a community, we're a very close community and it's one of our own," said resident George Camacho who visited both memorials with his son. "It's losing a family member, it's just who we are in Weymouth. Losing anyone in this town is losing a family member."

Eva Santos came out to the police station to pay her respects because she said Chesna saved her life last December. Santos had a seizure at work and Chesna was the responding officer.
"He was very comforting," she said. "I remember the touch he gave me when he said everything was going to be okay. A nice soft, comforting touch."
Chesna, 42, was responding to a report of erratic driving near South Shore Hospital Sunday morning. He found a crashed BMW along with Emmanuel Lopes, 20, allegedly vandalizing a home at Burton Terrace.
After Chesna drew his gun and gave commands, authorities said Lopes struck Chesna in the head with a rock. Then, Lopes allegedly stole Chesna's gun and shot him in the head and chest.
An innocent bystander at Torrey Street was also killed by a stray bullet. Court records later identified her as Vera Adams, 77.
A candlelight vigil will be held at Weymouth High School Monday night at 7:00 for both Chesna and Adams.
