Weymouth Man Steals From Hingham Cars to Pay For Gas and Cigarettes
Police determined a Weymouth man stole a total of $20.02 in change from three Hingham vehicles.
A Weymouth man was arrested Sunday morning after he told police he stole loose change out of unlocked Hingham cars to pay for “gas and butts.”
Ethan A. Hobrook, 22, of 5 Wadaga Road, Weymouth was arrested and charged with three counts of breaking and entering and one count of disturbing the peace after he entered three vehicles parked at a Hingham condo complex on Hockley Drive.
A Hockley drive resident called the police at 2:18 a.m. Sunday after she witnessed Holbrook enter a vehicle at the complex, according to the police report. She observed Holbrook approach almost every car in the lot and pull on each vehicle’s door handle tosee if they were unlocked, the police report stated.

When Hingham officers Michael Gervasi and Michael Rockoff arrived, they found Holbrook carrying $5.10 worth of change inside a Crown Royal bag. Holbrook admitted to police that he didn’t steal anything from the vehicles besides loose change, which he claimed he needed to pay for gas and cigarettes, the report stated.
Stolen change was also found inside a Marylou’s coffee cup inside Holbrook’s vehicle. Police determined he stole a total of $20.02 from three vehicles.
