Weymouth Man Wins Lucky for Life

Patrick Malone of Weymouth will receive $25,000 (less taxes) every year for the rest of his life.

From the Massachusetts State Lottery:

Patrick Malone of Weymouth celebrated his 28th birthday on Thursday, February 12 by visiting the Massachusetts State Lottery’s Braintree headquarters and claiming a $25,000 a year for life prize won in the newly expanded multi-state “Lucky for Life” draw game.

Malone won the game’s $25,000 a year for life second prize when one of the combinations on his Quic Pic ticket matched the first five numbers in the Monday, February 9 drawing. “Lucky for Life” also gives players the opportunity to win $1,000 a day, every day, for the rest of their lives, if they correctly match the first five numbers, as well as the Lucky Ball number.

Malone’s winning combination (08-15-25-33-41) was the third of four sets of numbers on his ticket. At a cost of $2 per play, Malone chose to play four combinations for a total of $8 in order to be entered into a promotional second chance drawing for a chance to win $2,015. The Mass. Lottery’s promotion coincided with the launch of the “Lucky for Life” game’s new design that features enhanced odds of winning, larger lower-tier prizes and the addition of eight new states to this “Game of a Lifetime.”

Malone elected to receive his prize in payments of $25,000 (less taxes) every year for the rest of his life. There is a minimum 20-year guarantee on the prize. Malone indicated that he will likely need to use some of his initial winnings to repair damage to his roof caused by the relentless snowstorms that have pummeled the area over the last several weeks. He already has plans to take a cruise and his good fortune will provide him with some additional spending money for this trip.
