Weymouth Native to Talk About Interior Design Success at UMass Lowell

The television star and interior designer will answer questions on home design projects and will offer holiday and everyday design ideas.

A interior designer from Weymouth will make an appearance her alma mater next month to talk about her career and her college experience.

Taniya Nayak has created looks for HGTV’s “FreeStyle” and “Designed to Sell” and was the interior designer on the Food Network’s “Restaurant Impossible.”

She has hosted ABC Family’s “Knock First” and has been featured in Architectural Digest India, Design New England, People magazine and Cosmopolitan.

Nayak will hold a motivational talk about her work as an interior designer, her experience at UMass Lowell, her family and more in a program open to alumni and the public on Wednesday, Dec. 10.

“The education I received at UMass Lowell served as the ideal launching pad for me to pursue my passion for architecture and design,” Nayak said in a press release.

Nayak will hold a question-and-answer session on home-improvement and interior-design projects and will also offer holiday and everyday living design ideas.

The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Moloney Hall, on the second floor of University Crossing, 220 Pawtucket St. in Lowell.

Nayak was Born in India, raised in Weymouth and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree from UMass Lowell in business marketing in 1994 and her master’s degree in interior design from Boston Architectural College.

“We are very excited to have her share her experiences and her inspirational ideas with the public and her fellow graduates during this first-of-its-kind event to benefit student scholarships,” said Heather Makrez, UMass Lowell’s director of alumni relations in a press release.

Her company, Taniya Nayak Design LLC, has created interior and exterior spaces at Boston locations including Abby Lane, Back Bay Harry’s, Bostonia Public House and Petit Robert Central.

Nayak designs homes for clients such as actor Jesse Metcalfe of “Desperate Housewives” and “Dallas” fame and Aerosmith lead guitarist Joe Perry. She also works to remodel and improve the living areas of children and teens with physical and health issues in Greater Boston as an honorary board member and supporter of the Room to Dream Foundation.
