Weymouth Police Arrest Second Suspect in Hypodermic Needle Attack

Michael Burcham was arrested and charged with armed assault with intent to rob (hypodermic syringe).

The 28-year-old Weymouth victim who was ran over by a vehicle on Emilissa Lane on Monday  was arrested today by Weymouth Police.

At approximately 11:00 a.m. Tuesday Weymouth officers took Michael R. Burcham, age 28 of 5 Emilissa Lane into custody at South Shore Hospital, according to police Captain Richard Fuller.

Burcham was ran over by Jeffry Barthelmy, who was arrested on Monday.

Barthelmy told police that when he arrived on Emilissa Lane, Burcham attacked him, entered the passenger side of the vehicle and attempted to rob him with a hypodermic needle.

Burcham was arrested and charged with  armed assault with intent to rob (hypodermic syringe), armed carjacking, assault with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to violate the drug laws, police said.

“The arrest was made based on statements from both involved parties, witness reports and evidence found at the scene,” Fuller said in a statement.

Burcham told officers that the incident was result of a heroin deal gone bad. Burcham is due to be arraigned in Quincy District Court later today.
