Matthew Hailey and Steven Legere of Weymouth, Hailey a senior and Legere a freshman at Boston College High School, won awards in the 64th Boston Globe Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition. The competition, this year presented by the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, is the regional division of a prestigious national program that recognizes the creative talents of students in grades 7 through 12.
There are three types of awards: Gold Key (highest award), Silver Key and Honorable Mention. Hailey won a Silver Key in Studio Art Drawing , Legere won an Honorable Mention in Studio Art . Their works were two of 13,000+ art works submitted in 28 different categories by more than 8,000 students.
Their prize works, submitted by their art teacher, Eleanor Chmiel, were two of the nineteen awards BC High students won this year. The talented students received 4 Gold Keys, 3 Silver Keys and 12 Honorable Mentions.

During the month of March, this year's exhibit of Gold Key Award Winning Art and Writing was put on display at Boston City Hall. The BC High award wining art will be on display in the Cadigan Atrium on the campus of BC High from March 31st to April 4th . The AP Studio Art & Scholastic Art exhibit will open on Thursday April 3rd @ 5pm.
