Weymouth Woman Accused Of Murdering Niece Indicted

Charges against the 28-year-old in the baby's death were upgraded late last year.

WEYMOUTH, MA – A Weymouth woman has been indicted on murder charges in the death of her baby niece last year, according to the Patriot Ledger. Shu Feng Hsu, 28, was arrested in November following a report from the office of the Chief Medical Examiner listing 11-month-old Chloe Chen's cause of death as blunt force to the head.

Hsu was already facing assault charges related to Chen's death. She pleaded not guilty this past March.

Hsu was living with Chen's mother and father in Quincy but was alone with the baby at the time of her death on Feb. 15, 2018, according to police. She called 911 at 4:30 p.m., telling dispatchers her 11-month old niece was not responsive. The baby was rushed to Boston Medical Center but suffered multiple seizures and succumbed to her injuries two days later.

Police said they have looked through hundreds of hours of home security footage, but none of the cameras were in the room Chen was in. Some cameras, however, picked up audio.

The cameras recorded the baby crying until about 4:25 p.m., when someone entered the room and a "distinctive dull thump" could be heard, police told the Patriot Ledger. This was followed by a second thump seconds later and "10 more thumps every few seconds," according to police.

Investigators believe Hsu beat Chen, causing brain damage that led to her death. Hsu has been in jail since her bail was revoked Nov. 20.
