Weymouth Woman Who Had Surprise Baby Responds to Critics

A Weymouth woman who gave birth only an hour after discovering that she was pregnant is responding to criticism aimed at her on the internet.

Katie Kropas, a 23-year-old resident from Weymouth, told Meredith Vieira on her daytime talk show that while she would like to say that comments from the internet have not affected her, that is not the case.

“Some of them are a little worse than others. Saying that I’m a liar and that I don’t have a motherly instinct is scary when you’re a new mom,” she told Vieira.

Her mother Karen said that while there have been some negative comments, the community has been very supportive of her daughter.

“If we heard the story, we would be rolling our eyes and finding the story hard to believe. People may not believe but there are people that are nasty,” Karen said. “For every one or two negative comments there are eight to 10 positives.”

Katie Kropas made headlines earlier this month when she discovered that she was pregnant after going to the hospital for stomach pains. One hour later, she gave birth to a baby girl by C-section.

Katie told Vieira that she showed no signs of pregnancy aside from swollen feet, which she attributed possibly to diabetes and didn’t notice until a couple of weeks prior to giving birth.
