Merger of St. Dorothy and St. Thomas Parishes - The Parish of The Transfiguration is "newest" Catholic Parish

After several years of collaborating as one Catholic faith community, the parishes of St. Dorothy and St. Thomas have officially been merged, effective February 1, 2018, by the Cardinal Archbishop of Boston, creating a new parish to be known as The Parish of The Transfiguration.
Under the leadership of the pastor, Fr. Phil Earley, the Catholics of Wilmington and South Tewksbury have been building a unified Roman Catholic faith community. The pastor created the mindset where parishioners from both former parishes would be served by one staff of clergy and lay leaders. That mindset has served the people well as parishioners have embraced the unifying atmosphere.
Last Spring, parishioners gathered to be updated about the process of a church merger. Those who attended were supportive of the vision to create a new parish. Last Fall, a Day of Prayer & Reflection was held to begin to discern possible names for a new parish. Once a list of 100+ names was reduced to 4 names that resonated with parishioners, we met with Archdiocesan leadership to present our rationale for the merger. Within 30 days of that meeting, Cardinal Sean O'Malley officially approved the merger and selected one of the four names suggested by parishioners.
