EPA To Issue Olin Superfund Site Cleanup Plan Aug. 10
The environmental protection agency will take comments ahead of formalizing its remediating plans with Olin.
WILMINGTON, MA — The Environmental Protection Agency plans to release its cleanup plan for Wilmington's Olin Superfund Site on Aug. 10, the agency told the town.
Olin Chemical is a 53-acre rubber and plastics facility at 51 Eames Street that closed in 1986. In 2002 groundwater contamination from the site's waste disposal forced the closure of town drinking water wells.
The site was made a national priority in 2006. EPA analyses have found that both the soil and groundwater at the site contain hazardous chemicals.

The Aug. 10 "record of decision" will describe the EPA's plan with Olin and two other responsible parties for cleanup, Town Manager Jeffrey Hull told the Wilmington selectmen. It will be followed by an informational hearing on Aug 25, a public comment period and a formal meeting to collect comments on Sept. 22.
At that point it will formalize its decision and continue discussions with Olin and the other two parties on financial commitments.
