VIDEO: Incumbent Miceli Defeats Sears in Landslide Vote

Updated at 10:31 p.m.: After a long campaign, Rep. Jim Miceli used his victory speech to supporters for a parting shot to challenger Doug Sears.

"If you take Tewksbury and you take Wilmington, they don’t buy into dirty campaigning. I’m not going to be humble like I’ve been in the past," said Miceli, who never referred to Sears by name. "I’ve been in politics since 1963 and this guy is the dirtiest individual I’ve ever run against in my life. But the problem was he couldn’t find anything bad. And what he couldn’t find, he’d make up. We overcame that and I appreciate that."

In Wilmington, the unofficial results show that Miceli cruised with a 7,834-2,279 margin of victory.

Original Story: Though it was a race that featured plenty of heated discussion and accusations, it appears that it is Rep. Jim Miceli, D-Wilmington who will have the last word.

Tewksbury and Wilmington voters have re-elected Miceli to another term as the 19th Middlesex District representative in a landslide vote. He earned a blowout victory in Tewksbury (7883-3381). Precinct 5 of Wilmington was the first in that town to report with a 1,616-414 margin.

"It was a good campaign and a good fight," said Sears. "The people have spoken. They'll have Miceli for another two years. I wish him well."

Sears said he would continue to lobby for the issues that he campaigned on during the elections, such as smaller government and increases in local aid.

Miceli is speaking to supporters at Rocco's in Wilmington. Patch will have complete reaction as the evening goes on.
