Wilmington Candidates Set For Live Debates Ahead Of Town Election

Debates will be held for Wilmington School Committee candidates and Wilmington Select Board candidates this week.

WILMINGTON, MA — Voters will have a chance to hear directly from local candidates this week as Wilmington Community Television hosts a pair of live debates ahead of the upcoming town election, according to a statement.

The debates are scheduled for Tuesday, April 7, beginning at 6:30 p.m., and will air live on WCTV’s main channel (Comcast 9, Verizon 37). They will also stream on WCTV’s website and YouTube channel.

The School Committee debate will run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and is expected to include candidates Adrian Babu, Dr. Jennifer Bryson and Michael Mercaldi. As of the press release, Bryson and Mercaldi had confirmed their participation.

The Select Board debate will follow from 7:45 to 8:45 p.m., featuring candidates Gary DePalma, Rob Fasulo, Sivakumar Mallaiyasamy and Frank West. All four candidates have confirmed they will take part.

Wilmington Town Moderator Jonathan Eaton will serve as moderator. Candidates will answer questions from a panel of local journalists, and voters can also submit questions in advance by emailing wilmingtonapple@gmail.com.

The debates will be held at the WCTV studio and will not include a live audience due to space limitations. A recording will be available for on-demand viewing the following day.

Key election deadlines are approaching. The last day to register to vote is April 15, while the deadline to request a vote-by-mail or absentee ballot is April 17. Early in-person voting will take place April 13 through April 17 at the Town Clerk’s Office during regular Town Hall hours.

Election Day is set for April 25 with polls open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Precincts 1 through 3 will vote at the Wilmington Senior Center, while Precincts 4 through 6 will vote at Wilmington Town Hall.
