Lowell Man Charged with His Sixth OUI Offense

Police say the suspect used his vehicle to smash the rear glass door of a Wilmington business.

WILMINGTON, MA — A Lowell man was arrested in Woburn Friday morning and charged with his sixth offense of operating a vehicle under the influence, as well as breaking and entering into a Wilmington business, Wilmington police announced Friday.

Brian J. Caputo, 41, of Arnold Avenue in Lowell was arrested on charges including operating under the influence of liquor (sixth offense), breaking and entering of a building in the night time and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, among other charges.

Police say that Caputo was seen driving a 2007 GMC envoy erratically in the vicinity of Hopkins St. and refused to pull over for officers.

According to Wilmington Police, officers later followed the vehicle to a dead end street in Woburn, where Caputo allegedly struck a parked vehicle and rammed two Wilmington police cruisers in an attempt to escape the dead end street.

Police say that officers were quickly able to stop the vehicle and bring Caputo into custody. Police later learned that Caputo had allegedly broken into the Corner Store on Shawsheen Avenue, and had used the vehicle to smash the rear glass door of the business.

Caputo is set to be arraigned in Woburn District Court Friday.
