Lowell/Woburn St. Intersection Work, Closures Continue This Week
Crews encountered ledge while installing a new sewer line, leading to the unexpected delays in the project on busy Lowell St. in Wilmington.

WILMINGTON, MA -- Drivers can expect delays on Woburn and Lowell Streets and Wilmington throughout the week as work continues on a sewer extension project. The busy intersection at Lowell and Woburn Streets was originally scheduled to be closed Tuesday and Wednesday of last week. But that closure continued through the end of the week and, over the weekend, Wilmington Police said the expect the intersection to be closed every day this week as well.
Wilmington Police said traffic will be detoured using Eames Street to Main Street, and back to Lowell Street. Customers of Lucci's supermarket and other businesses in the plaza near the intersection can enter via Woburn Street northbound.
The road will close at 8:30 am each day this week. Work ends and the road reopens at 4 pm each day. Police said the delays were caused when the contractor encountered more ledge than expected during drilling work. The contractor plans to wrap up work for the winter this week.
