Wilmington's Liane McAuliffe Receives Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal
Liane McAuliffe, a Wilmington native, is currently a Lieutenant in the U. S. Navy, based in Pensacola Florida, training at the Aerospace Medicine Academic Center, to become a flight surgeon.
Liane was awarded the achievement medal, along with a citation from the Secretary of the Navy:
“To Lieutenant Liane M. McAuliffe, Medical Corps, United States Navy, for professional achievement in the superior performance of her duties while serving as a general medical officer, Naval Aerospace Medical Institute, Pensacola, Florida. Lieutenant McAuliffe selflessly volunteered her clinical services during a critical manning shortage at the Naval Hospital, Pensacola, Urgent Care Center from 12 October 2017 to 30 November 2017. She delivered exceptional healthcare to 330 beneficiaries which resulted in a 67,536 dollar cost avoidance.

"Despite her arduous academic schedule, Lieutenant McAuliffe volunteered for 24 12-hour shifts that decreased patient wait time and allowed for provider training. Lieutenant McAuliffe’s exceptional professionalism, unrelenting perseverance, and loyal devotion to duty reflected credit upon her and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.”
After receiving a full scholarship to Albany Medical College from the U. S. Navy, Liane graduated as an M.D., in May of 2016. She went on to her intern year at the Naval Medical Center - San Diego. Following that, she was chosen for flight surgeon training, and has been stationed at Pensacola since July of 2017.
