Wilmington Pop Warner Prepares for Upcoming Season
The local football organization has a host of activities coming up this fall.
For Wilmington Pop Warner participants and their families all around town, August 1 has a lot of different meanings. Yes, it marks the last month of the New England summer, the final weeks of school vacation and even back to school shopping.
Most important, however, is that August 1 means the start of the Pop Warner season.
For players, cheerleaders and their families, August 1 really is the start of the most exciting season of all and this year is no exception. Teams have been gathering at the Glen Road Field and, as usual, giving each and every practice their best.

Practice is, of course, the mainstay for both cheerleaders and players at the field but, behind the scenes, Pop Warner is making plans for a host of additional events to get the season rolling.
First on the list is the annual weigh in and sticker drive scheduled for Saturday, September 8. As any Pop Warner parent knows, each player is weighed the day before the first game of the season and that weigh in usually takes place very early in the morning.

Players board the bus at the crack of dawn and parents can usually be seen driving through town looking for hot coffee and breakfast soon after the players depart.
Once those players return, however, is when the fun begins. Traditionally weigh ins also marks the annual Pop Warner Sticker Drive and, once the bus returns, players and cheerleaders take to the streets to sell stickers and raise money for their program.
For the second year in a row, Wilmington Pop Warner will also use the day as a chance to host Punt, Pass and Kick, an NFL Program for boys and girls ages 6–15. The event begins at 1 p.m. and is open to open to the public. Participants must, however, provide a birth certificate. For more information visit Wilmington Pop Warner online.
Next on the list is the annual parents’ night out. Yes, parents need a little a little fun also and on Friday, September 22, Wilmington Pop Warner will host Frank Santos, the R-rated hypnotist, for a comedy night at the . Tickets to the event are $15 and can be purchased online or at the door. The evening will feature raffle baskets, a 50/50 raffle and a whole lot of fun and laughter.
Finally, homecoming is always a special day in Pop Warner. Traditionally, homecoming is a day when former players come back to the field and celebrate the season alongside newer teams.
This year homecoming will take place on Sunday, October 7, and feature a day filled with fun, family events. Without a doubt the dunk tank and golf cart rides have been town favorites for years but you just never know what else may be added to the festivities.
This year as the Wildcats take to the field its clear that, more than anything else, they are there taking pride in their town and their team and giving it their all.
