“We are well aware of the stress that this placed on families, particularly our middle school families, and we appreciate that so many of you entrusted us with the care of your students yesterday. For those that were not comfortable sending your child(ren) to school, we certainly understand the anxiety that this situation unfortunately created.

“I assure you that we are taking this matter very seriously and working hard to minimize the possibility of this type of behavior happening in the future. We should all personally thank the staff at Wilmington Middle School and the Wilmington Police Department for working so hard to ensure that your children feel safe and comfortable while in our care. They did a fantastic job yesterday as did our students,” said DeLai.
