Wilmington Board Of Selectmen Approve Blasting On Fordham Road

31,000 cubic yards of material will need to be removed, representatives from the developer said.

WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington's Board of Selectmen approved at their recent meeting a project to remove over 30 thousand cubic yards of materials at 100-110 Fordham Road. That includes 1,500 cubic yards that will need to be blasted, for a total of 31,000 cubic yards of material. The work is required to develop the site for a coming Amazon distribution center, according to the developers' attorney Jill Elmstrom Mann.

The project has site plan approval and will improve stormwater capture at the site, according to Town Engineer Paul Alunni's recommendation. Alunni also recommended a number of conditions, which the selectmen included in their approval. Among other conditions, work will be limited to working hours, hauling will follow a specific route — Concord Street to Roue 93 — and workers will clean the route daily.

Selectman Jonathan Eaton expressed concern about the force and noise of the blasting, noting the significant blasting at the Ledges project in Woburn. The petitioners agreed to inform the town ahead of time of blasting, so that the public can be warned. The Board approved the project at their Feb. 24 meeting.
