Wilmington Coronavirus: 7 AdviniaCare Residents Die, 84 Cases

All seven residents who have died were receiving end of life care prior to testing positive, the facility's operator said.

WILMINGTON, MA — Seven AdviniaCare residents have died after testing positive for the new coronavirus, the facility's operator said Wednesday. All seven were receiving end of life care prior to their positive test, Chris Hannon, the Pointe Groupe Care chief operating officer, said

The cause of death for the seven residents has yet to be determined. All seven were very sick with other illnesses prior to becoming infected, a spokesperson said.

Another 77 residents have tested positive for the virus. Prior to the seven deaths, the facility had 98 residents.

"Our thoughts are with the families who have lost a relative and we are hoping for a speedy recovery for those who have tested positive, most of whom remain asymptomatic at this time," Hannon said.

AdviniaCare first reported cases Saturday, when 51 residents tested positive. All staff and residents would be tested, the nursing home reported. Staff have been tested but the results are not yet available.

Prior to the positive tests, Pointe Group Care was planning to move the residents to other facilities and convert the building into a coronavirus treatment facility.
