Wilmington Coronavirus: Town Election Scheduled For June 20

The Board of Selectmen voted Monday night to set a new date for the town election, previously scheduled for April 25.

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Board of Selectmen voted Monday to schedule the town election for June 20. The board voted in March to postpone the election from its original April 25 date, but did not set a date at the time.

Town Clerk Christine Touma-Conway recommended June 20 as a date that gets the election done before the June 30 deadline and leaves a weekend open for town meeting, if need be.

Touma-Conway noted that a number of measures will have to be taken to adjust the town election, beyond encouraging early and absentee voting. She is considering ways to reduce risk including recruiting high schoolers to volunteer as election workers, asking for a waiver to reduce the number of workers per precinct, and sanitizing voting equipment.
