Wilmington Developer Says He Has No Plan To Build 760 Condo Units
Michael Welch says Selectman Michael McCoy's assertion that he wants to build a massive condo complex is unfounded.

WILMINGTON, MA -- Michael Welch, the developer who has been the target of a string of letters to local media outlets from Selectman Michael McCoy, says he has no plan to build 760 condominiums on a 76-acre Andover Street parcel as McCoy maintains. Yes, Welch's daughter Jacqueline filed an article for the Town Meeting warrant to change the zoning of the land and yes he is considering some housing for whatever he decides to build there, but don't expect a massive condo complex that would burden the town in the way McCoy has predicted.
"Wilmington doesn't need anymore $800,000 homes being built," Welch told the Lowell Sun. "Wilmington doesn't need any more burdens on the school system."
Welch said he needs to evaluate the land before he can determine how many houses can be built on the parcel, although he hopes to offer houses for older empty-nesters and younger people who are looking for affordable options to stay in town. No plan has been submitted to the Wilmington planning department, so it remains unclear where McCoy got his erroneous information.
