Wilmington will be joining the City of Boston in observing “One Boston Day” with a moment of silence on the second anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing on Patriots Day 2013. The moment of silence will be observed on Wednesday, April 15, 2:49 p.m.
The Patriot’s Day Bombing was an attempt to terrorize the City of Boston, the Commonwealth, and the nation. It was a horrific act that resulted in the loss of four lives and the injury of hundreds. More directly, Wilmington lost one of its own in the killing of Officer Sean Collier, a bright and promising young officer on the MIT Police force. The attackers failed in their mission, as we saw our communities pull together to care for and strengthen each other on that day and the days, weeks and months following.
