Wilmington Police Officer, Dispatcher Meet Baby Born On I-93

Wilmington Police Officer Matthew Starvo and Dispatcher Jill Regan visited mom and baby Lidya on Thursday.

WILMINGTON, MA -- The police officer and dispatcher who were instrumental in the safe delivery of a baby in the breakdown lane of Interstate 93 South got to meet her on Thursday. Wilmington Police Officer Matthew Starvo and Dispatcher Jill Regan visited Lidya and her parents at Winchester Hospital, where all three are doing well.

It was Regan who took the call to Wilmington Police at 9:56 am Wednesday from a man whose wife was in active labor and about to give birth. He had just pulled his car over at Exit 39 on Interstate 93 South.

Starvo arrived two minutes after the call was placed to find that the baby had been fully delivered. He administered first aid to mom and baby until Wilmington Fire Department personnel arrived to take the happy family to the hospital.
