Acera's First Annual STEM Symposium to Bring Leading Area Innovators to Winchester
Acera's First Annual STEM Symposium brings MIT, Dana Farber and MGH scientists together for a free family community event in Winchester.

On April 16, 2015, Winchester’s Acera School will bring together leading researchers in fields of bioengineering, neuroscience, medical research, robotics and engineering for expo-style presentations and discussions of emerging technologies, scientific discoveries and innovation.
Acera’s first annual STEM Symposium will be held Thursday, April 16 from 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm at Acera School (5 Lowell Ave in Winchester). This event will be free and open to the public.
Notable presenters will include Angela Belcher, PhD, W.M. Keck Professor of Energy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; James Cleary, M.D., PhD, Dana Farber Cancer Institute; Gus Halwani, PhD, Massachusetts Institute of Technology Neuroscientist and Acera faculty member; Christopher Morse, MSME, Chief Mechanical Engineer at BiOM; Allison Perrotta and Sarah Spencer from the Center for Microbiome Informatics and Therapeutics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Massachusetts General Hospital; and Alisha Panjwani, Acera faculty member and researcher at the MIT Media Lab.

Acera’s STEM Symposium is an event open to the whole family. Presenters will share their research via scientific posters, demos and dialogues, and feature topics including: the role of the immune system in fighting cancer, using virus-based tool-kits to build new materials for energy and medicine, and emerging technology in robotic limbs.
“In the first iteration of what we hope becomes an annual event, we aim to inspire students, families and our community with new awareness of emerging innovations and ways to think about scientific research and its impact,” said Acera founder Courtney Dickinson. “We hope to inspire thinkers of all ages to develop new ideas and innovations to address the needs in their communities.”
