Diamondbacks deal Dodgers first loss (May 10)

The Pro-Care Diamondbacks behind the solid pitching of Patrick Costello and Ben Rand, defeated the A. Scolaro Masonry Dodgers 5-3 Tuesday at Nutile field.

The Diamondbacks played a strong all around game combining the pitching with clutch hitting and solid defense. Costello went 4 innings giving up one run on 2 hits and struck out 6. He also got the D-Backs on the board leading off the second with a blast to left for a homerun. Alex Caliguri scored the other run in the inning scoring on a single by Evan Clarke. Liam Fitzpatrick scored the Dodgers first run on a fielder's choice by Joe Lepore.

It was 2-1 after 2 innings and stayed that way until the D-Backs scored three in the bottom of the 5th. Owen Ulicny singled, Evan Clark walked, Teigan Weissman walked to load the bases. Hunter Weissman singled scoring 2. Matt Fucillo singled home the final run.

The Dodgers trailing by 4 scored 2 in the top of the 6th, Andrew Torrey, Philip Marks, Zach Geddes and Matt Scolaro all walked scoring 1 run. With 2 outs Liam Fitzpatrick singled to left scoring one but Costello fired a strike to the plate to get the 3rd out ending the game, snuffing out the Dodgers' bid to remain undefeated.

This was a well played game with solid defense by both teams. Evan Clarke, Caliguri and Ulicny made nice plays. Torrey, Scolaro and Fitzpatrick made key plays for the Dodgers.
