Winchester Boys Soccer Ties Belmont, 1-1

Belmont came to Winchester and scored a quick goal in the opening minutes of the game on Wednesday, Sept. 19. Winchester tied it up with an exciting goal at the end of the half.

With less than two minutes remaining in the first half, Dan Boulanger made a nice outlet pass from deep in Winchester’s end of the field. Zach Samson one-touched it to John Downs near midfield.

Just before he was leveled by a Belmont player, Downs got off a pass to the streaking Samson. Samson got turned around by a defender 10 yards from the box, but did a back heel kick to Nick Stern who took it to the goal line before centering it to Marino Espiga who put it in the net to tie the game 1-1.

Freshman keeper Cooper Harris of Winchester played most of the first half and all of the second half in the goal. These were his first real minutes in a varsity game and he acquitted himself well, not allowing Belmont to score, and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

Winchester’s record is now 3-0-2.
