Gather your friends or make it a date night at our adults-only sip and spin class! Perfect for beginners: you'll learn the fundamentals of throwing on the wheel and glazing before the final firing and get a taste of what our longer wheel throwing courses are like. We provide snacks and mocktails!
Sign up early for this fan favorite class!
NOTE: This is a 2 night series. You'll throw your pieces in the first session and glaze them in the second session after a bisque firing in between. Please read our Cancellation Policy before registering. We are unable to offer credits or refunds for missed classes with less than 7-days notice. If you attend the first session, but are unable to make the 2nd session, we will be happy to dip your pieces in clear glaze for you, so they will be beautiful and strong.

Let’s build a city… and put on a puppet show!
This week, you’ll work together to build a mini city filled with fun places like pizza shops, parks, fire stations, and museums. Everyone will help plan the city and build their own part, using cardboard, blocks, and art materials.
You’ll also make simple puppets—people, animals, or silly characters—who live in the city. Your puppets will have jobs, homes, and stories to tell! Once the city is built, it’s time to play and pretend. You’ll use your puppets to act out stories like helping a neighbor, visiting the park, or going to the pizza shop. There’s no script—just imagination and teamwork.
At the end of the week, you’ll share your city and perform a short puppet show for families, then take home your puppets and your own buildings. This week, kids will explore two exciting art traditions from Mexico: Huichol yarn painting and Talavera tile design. Huichol artists create textured pictures using bright yarn, while Talavera tiles are known for bold colors, repeating patterns, and mirror-image designs. You’ll combine these ideas to design your own Yarn Painting Talavera, using symbols, colors, and patterns that show who you are—animals, sports, nature, family traditions, and more.
You’ll also learn to weave on a wooden loom, creating colorful textile pieces while practicing over-under patterns and adding fun details like beads, pom-poms, and yarn textures.

Griffin Museum-Photography

Winchester Community Music School, in collaboration with Arts Winchester and the Griffin Museum, will present an Afro Caribe Festival at the Griffin Museum on Saturday, July 25, 2-5 PM (with a rain date of Sunday, July 26, 12-3 PM). This free, public festival will feature an afternoon of African and Caribbean music, storytelling, history, and hands-on art-making activities at the Griffin Museum, 67 Shore Road, Winchester. 
Debra “Sista Dee” Smith and her award-winning reggae group, Dis-N-Dat Band, will headline the festival. Smith is a performer, educator, producer, arranger, director, and faculty member at Winchester Community Music School. She will lead a performance by the Wicked Steel drum ensemble featuring WCMS students, and will also give a presentation on Trinidadian history. 
Yaya Inaru ni will share the cultural heritage of Bomba from Puerto Rico through music, storytelling, drumming, and community engagement. Throughout the afternoon, local artist Linda Forsythe will lead interactive visual art-making activities.
