Canning Jam Workshop this Tuesday 8/30

Learn how to make and can raspberry-plum jam at Wright-Locke Farm's workshop next week

Join Wright-Locke Farm this upcoming Tuesday, August 30 for its Introduction to Canning Jam and Sweet Preserves Workshop from 6 - 8:30pm at Saint Eulalia's Parish (50 Ridge Street, Winchester, MA). Learn the basic science of hot water bath canning and techniques for making delicious homemade jams, jellies, conserves, fruit sauces, whole and half fruits, and more. Education Director Rebekah Carter will lead this hands-on workshop that explains the necessary ingredients, equipment, and methods for safely making shelf-stable products at home on a small scale. Participants will help prepare and can a half pint jar of raspberry-plum jam to take home and enjoy. Registration is REQUIRED to attend, so please visit the Farm's website to learn more or sign up.

Can't make the workshop but interested in more late summer activities? The Farm's U-Pick organic raspberry season has just begun, so consider stopping by sometime this or next month to pick a pint or more. Please be sure to check the Farm's website about picking hours as the fields can sometimes be closed due to picking conditions or inclement weather. Normal picking hours for 2016 are: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9am - 12pm; Saturday and Sunday from 1- 4pm. U-Pick Raspberry Volunteers are needed in the farm stand, too, so please consider lending a hand! Individuals ages 14+ can help; flexible scheduling and training are provided.

Interested in children's programs? The start of the school year marks the start of Wright-Locke's Fall After School Programs, held once a week over six weeks. Due to popular demand, only the Tuesday and Wednesday programs for kids in grades K - 2 are still available (programs start 9/13 and 9/14 and are held from 3:30 - 5pm). These programs include farm and nature-inspired lessons, gardening, cooking, and spending time with their beloved farm animals. Please visit the Farm's website to learn more or sign up. They also have scholarships available for kids qualified for free or reduced-price meals thanks to the Winchester Rotary Club.
