FROM THE COMMUNITY. FOR THE COMMUNITY. Hank Wonder to perform benefit concert for Winchester Got Lunch

Hank Wonder will take the stage at the Griffin Museum of Photography on Friday, November 3rd to raise funds and awareness for Winchester Got Lunch. Winchester Got Lunch (WGL), located in Winchester, Massachusetts, is a 501c3 non-profit volunteer organization. The mission of Winchester Got Lunch is to provide healthy lunches during the summer to Winchester students who rely on subsidized lunches during the school year.

The Winchester Got Lunch Program launched in the summer of 2012, and operates during school summer break. Each student enrolled receives a bag with approximately $15-$20 worth of lunch items each week. Volunteers pack lunch bags each Monday of the summer school break and deliver them directly to the homes of those enrolled in the program. “Winchester Got Lunch is a collaboration of churches, town and school employees, community organizers, businesses, and individuals. It is a true testament that when there is a need, people come together to help,” says Sharon Johnson, co-president of WGL.

Hank Wonder is donating their time and is excited to share their debut album at the 6th annual Music is Food fundraiser. The Winchester-based trio of Annie Bartlett (fiddle and viola), Darren Buck (vocals), and Michael Loria (guitar) first came together in 2013, and have since crafted their very own soulful blend of Americana: equal parts down home and gussied up. Somewhere on the musical map, where the twang of Classic Country meets the grit of Southern Soul, Hank Wonder marks a detour down a sonic stretch of unpaved road.

In November 2016, Hank Wonder entered Dimension Sound Studios in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts to record its debut album with producer and multi-instrumentalist Charlie Rose (Elephant Revival, Barnstar). Little Mysteries soon emerged as a strong set of 12 originals. Each penned by Buck, these tales of Downeast canoe rides, fables of reckless children, and odes to fine bourbon reward each new listen with lush layers of production, musicianship, and songcraft. Hank Wonder is donating all proceeds from their album sales on November 3rd to Winchester Got Lunch. “At the end of the day, the Music is Food concert is an opportunity for us to support the community we live in and love. Everyone should have access to real food, and it’s amazing to see such a strong outpouring of support for WGL,” says Bartlett. “We are thrilled be part of the fundraising effort."
