Following is a released from the office of State Representative Michael Day

State Representative Michael S. Day (D-Stoneham) was recently promoted to the position of Vice Chairman of the Massachusetts House of Representatives’ Committee on Personnel and Administration. After being nominated by House Speaker Robert DeLeo (D-Winthrop) and unanimously confirmed by his House colleagues, Representative Day formally joins the leadership team in the House of Representatives in only his second term in office.

“I am very appreciative that Speaker DeLeo and my colleagues have placed their trust in me by promoting me to a leadership position,” said Representative Day. “I am excited to take on this new responsibility and to have an increased voice in the direction of the Commonwealth. I will continue to work hard to honor my constituents and my colleagues in this expanded role, and I sincerely thank them for their vote of confidence.”

“In his short tenure, Representative Day has garnered great respect among his colleagues and proven himself to be an adept consensus-builder,” said Speaker DeLeo. “I believe that these leadership skills paired with his legal background make him an ideal fit for the role. I look forward to seeing the good work Representative Day will do both on the Committee and for his constituents.”

In his new leadership appointment, Representative Day will serve with Chairman Paul McMurtry (D-Dedham) to oversee the operations of the House of Representatives, institute proper procedure and protocol in the House and its offices, and oversee and facilitate training for House members and staff, including but not limited to ethics and conflict of interest training. The Personnel and Administration Committee also works with the House Business Office to develop, implement and make changes in the allocation of office space for members and their staffs in addition to establishing staffing levels and classification plans for employees. The Committee is currently facilitating the annual House intern summer program, including the assignment of interns to offices within the House and organizing the summer Lecture Series.
